CALIFORNIA CITY – A scholarship program has been created in memory of James and Anna Roberts, long time residents of California City and youth sports sponsors and supporters.

The James and Anna Roberts Scholarship Program will give two, $500.00 scholarships each year to the top male and female high school senior student-athlete. GPA, sports ability and community service will be the matrix used to select the recipients.

Each candidate will submit an essay outlining their scholastic, athletic and community service contributions as well as their goals for post secondary education.

Each applicant’s essay will be reviewed by the board of directors of the California City Basketball, Inc., the top two essays will be chosen for the scholarship and given at an awards ceremony each May. In the event of a tie the CEO/Founder will decide the winning candidates.

California City Basketball Inc., is a nonprofit organization designed to support youth through young adults as they aspire towards academic and athletic success. The first donations towards this scholarship program came from Sadia and Burley Patterson of Gilbert, Arizona. Sadia Patterson is the youngest and remaining sister of Anna Roberts.
