CALIFORNIA CITY — The California City Lady Ravens Varsity Volleyball Team hit a snag last week called Frazier Mountain. The Ravens were rolled in three straight by the division rivals 25-23, 25-12, and 25-18.
The Frazier Mountain Falcons, with a current record of 23-8-1, are the team to beat in this division and every year is a challenge for all other teams. Coach Moore’s Ravens fought hard for the win, coming within 2 points in the first set, but succumbing to the Falcons in the remaining two sets. The Ravens, now with a 13-13-2, record will next play Bishop Union on Tuesday the 9th will full scores in the next issue of MDN.
Due to the situation surrounding the CCHS football field, Cal City’s homecoming was held during the Ravens/Falcons volleyball match last Wednesday instead of during a football game as usual. In that procession of mini floats, with the theme “Time to Grow Up,” there were floats of Hot Wheels and Barbie dolls now to be retired as the class of 2018 looks toward graduation in the coming months.
As a side note, a new Ravens mascot was unveiled. “SHAFT” is the new CCHS Raven to watch, and his story was told during the “parade.” Long ago, SHAFT was abducted as a small bird and raised by strangers, only to return to his brother and take his place as Cal City Ravens mascot — so the story goes.
Over in Boron, the Lady Cats took a loss to the Lady Roadrunners of Rosamond last Thursday in three straight. Rosamond now posts a record of 11-9, and will next face Kern Valley on the 9th. The Lady Cats will next play the feared Frazier Mountain Tuesday the 9th in Boron fresh off the Falcons’ win over Cal City. Full scores in next issue.
