While the actual first day of school for Mojave Unified School District was Wednesday, the weekend prior held a pair of back to school events for area students. Mojave Junior Senior High School and California Middle School each hosted a Back to School Bash full of games, entertainment and school information.
According to MUSD Superintendent Dr. Aaron Haughton part of the motivation behind the events was to help reduce late arrivals in the school year.
In the 2018-2019 school year some 300 students failed to show up for the first day of school. Haughton said many parents were reportedly unaware that school starts in August for the district.
The first ever Back to School Bash events allowed students and parents to get information such as class schedules, school calendars and even free haircuts, as well as serve as a reminder of the official start date.
