BORON – The Boron High School Bobcats hosted the California City Ravens on Oct. 11 in what proved to be a close-fought game. The Ravens came out on top by a final score of 34-27.
The first quarter saw the Bobcats taking in two touchdowns which put them ahead 13-0; No. 5 Jaron Searcy rushed for the Bobcats first touchdown of the night then No. 10 Rayden Singer recovered a fumble which resulted in the ‘Cats second touchdown and the home crowd went wild. The Ravens came back in the second and scored 1 touchdown before Searcy passed to No. 3 Bryson Job for a three-yard touchdown; with the extra point good, the score was 21-6 with 2 minutes to go until the half. Bobcat No. 10 Rayden Singer recovered a fumble for another Bobcat touchdown which brought the score to 27-6 before the Ravens came back strong and with 6 seconds remaining until half-time, the Ravens scored two touchdowns which brought the score to 27-14 Boron at the half.
The Ravens continued to dominate the field in the third when No. 10 Jeremiah Neal threw a 45 yard pass to No. 2 Kwamain Ross for a touchdown and a completed 2-point conversion; with 4 minutes to go in the third the score was Ravens 28 Boron 27 however, the Ravens weren’t done yet; with 1 minute to go in the third, the Ravens scored another touchdown and 2-point conversion which brought the score to 34-27 Ravens.
The Ravens saw an injury towards the end of the third and continued to dominate the rest of the playing field in the fourth quarter; holding off the Bobcats and bringing home the win to California City.
Here’s the stats for the Bobcats: No. 5 Jaron Searcy had seven completed passes on 14 attempts for 72 yards and three yards on three carries, resulting in one touchdown, No. 9 Aaron Core rushed for 78 yards on 20 carries and three fumbles and had 11 total tackles with four solo and seven assists, No. 34 Talon Pierce rushed for 41 yards on 17 carries resulting in one touchdown and had six assisted total tackles, No. 8 Victor Pineda had 28 yards receiving and one fumble recovery, No. 3 Bryson Job had 44 yards receiving resulting in one touchdown and five total tackles with three assists, No. 4 Rob Salas rushed for 5 yards on three carries and had 67 yards in kick returns and one fumble recovery, No. 19 Quentin Hiegel had 10 all purpose yards and one fumble recovery, No. 2 Manuel Flores had two tackles, No. 6 Evan Howell had 9 total tackles; three solo and six assists, No. 10 Rayden Singer had seven total tackles with one solo and six assists and one fumble recovery for 42 yards and one blocked field goal, No. 13 Raymond Teteak had two total tackles with one solo and one assist, No. 30 Wyatt Howard had one fumble recovery and No. 55 Dylan Dadey had one fumble recovery.
The Ravens stats are: No. 10 Jeremiah Neal has a total of 65.2 rushing yards and 134 passing yards per game, No. 4 Khalil Mclin has a total of 1.1 sacks and 8.8 tackles per game, and No. 2 Kwamain Ross has 7.2 points per game.
The Bobcats travel to Kern Valley on Oct. 18 to play the Broncs in league play then they travel to Bishop Union on Oct. 25 before returning home to play long time school rivals the Desert Scorpions on Nov. 1; the Ravens are hosting the Desert Scorpions at home on Oct. 18 then to Rosamond before returning home to play Bishop Union also on Nov. 1.
The Bobcats are 3-4 overall and 1-1 in league play; the ‘Cats are ranked No. 3 in the High Desert League standings and ranked No. 10 in the Central Section Division 6 Football Standings going into their Oct. 18 game and California City is ranked No. 1 in the Central Section Division 6 standings and No. 2 in the High Desert League standings going into their Oct. 18 game.
