EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE —Security personnel from Edwards Air Force Base responded to a report of a female in distress outside the base’s North gate and rendered assistance, Nov. 6.
The woman, from North Las Vegas, was allegedly kidnapped, then robbed, raped and assaulted before being abandoned outside of Edwards Air Force Base, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department in a press conference.
Initial responders from Edwards took interview notes to turn over to local law enforcement and stayed with the victim while she was being evaluated by Emergency Medical Services. Backup responders searched the area for evidence.
“Our personnel did an excellent job,” said Lt. Col. Joseph Bincarousky, commander, 412th Security Forces Squadron, Edwards Air Force Base. “Communication and cooperation with other agencies were on point. This reinforces the fact we are first responders – a responsibility that doesn’t end at the perimeter of our base.”
All evidence was turned over to Kern County Sheriff’s Deputies, who eventually took jurisdiction of the off-base incident. The victim was transferred to Antelope Valley Hospital for further evaluation.
