CALIFORNIA CITY — The California City MX Park hosted the final race of the eighth annual Battle of the Parks race series last Sunday morning on a beautiful day here in Cal City.
Owners and operators John and Inge Elmes welcomed the throng of racers that showed up for the closeout race and giant raffle and trophy presentation that followed.
The series, now in its eighth year, started out in Tulare back on Nov. 18 at the DT1 MX Park there. The next leg of the series brought the racers to Cal City on Dec. 2 for the next race in the series, which rotated between the two parks this year. The third race of the series returned to Tulare and DT1, and bounced back to Cal City for the closeout fourth race of the series.
The action was heavy on the newly reformed track designed by owner John Elmes, who in this incarnation of his track designs has turned the former track backward from its former direction of flow, and the change has produced a more intricate track that requires even more skill to tackle. It is a competitive race design and much tougher than before, which separates the experienced from the novices very quickly. A very nice upgrade and one that is appreciated by the riders, no doubt.
