CALIFORNIA CITY – Old fashioned family fun will be featured at the city’s annual Fourth of July Gala at Central Park on Heather Avenue on July 4. A free firework show by Pyro Spectaculars at 9 p.m. will be the highlight of the July 4 extravaganza, but there will be a little something for everyone.

The new playground areas will be open for use all day. An open swim will be held at the pool from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at a cost of $2.50. The California City High School Ravens High School Basketball team will host an Ice Cream Social from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., DJ music from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and youth games will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. under the pavilion.

At 6:30 p.m. on the other side of town at Balsitis Park,7140 Landis Drive, the California City Whiptails will face off against the Adelanto High Desert Yardbirds.

California City Municipal Code prohibits the private use of fireworks in the park. Dogs and glass bottles are also prohibited in the park.
