BAKERSFIELD – A California City woman charged with the stabbing death of her adult son made a court appearance on Aug. 9 in Bakersfield.

Cynthia Gulley, 55, is charged with the murder of her son, 35-year old Christian David Gulley on Feb. 20, 2018.

According to California City Police probable cause declaration, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 8000 block of Hemlock Avenue in the early morning hours of Feb. 20, 2018 from 911 reports of a woman claiming there were two dead bodies inside the residence and she also stated that she tried to kill herself. Upon arrival, officers forced their way into the residence where they located two victims who were later identified as 80-year old Shelton Gulley and 35-year old Christian David Gulley. The woman who was later identified as 55-year old Cynthia Gulley was found on top of her son who had multiple stab wounds to his chest and neck; he was pronounced deceased at the scene; Shelton Gulley was found deceased on a gurney also inside the home.

Cynthia Gulley suffered several superficial stab wounds and was treated at Antelope Valley Hospital; after careful investigation, she was arrested on Feb. 26, 2018 and charged with Murder in the First Degree. Cynthia Gulley was arraigned in Mojave on March 7, 2018 then the case was moved to Bakersfield; Pre-Preliminary, Preliminary and Pre-Trial Hearings continued until Aug. 9 of this year where she appeared for a Readiness Hearing, which was continued until March 20, 2020 and a Jury Trial is set for March 30, 2020. Cynthia Gulley remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail and if convicted, she faces life in prison.
