WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the Trump Administration’s notice to Congress on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) trade deal:

“Passing USMCA would add hundreds of thousands of jobs to the American workforce, reduce costs for the American consumer, and revitalize industries across the country. A new trade deal will increase market access for farmers to sell produce to our biggest trading partners – a big win for rural America. And its sensible intellectual property reforms will position the U.S. to remain a leading creator, developer, and manufacturer of cutting-edge technology, ensuring America’s success in the 21st Century economy.

“Simply put, USMCA strengthens America.

“There is growing support for USMCA across North America. The legislatures in Mexico and Canada have begun the process of considering the agreement. Major hurdles to its passage have been cleared. Now is the right time for the United States to act.

“The Administration has taken an important step in that direction. Freer, fairer trade in North America will improve the lives of all Americans. An agreement that accomplishes this, as USMCA does, must be given the consideration it is due. Congress should work together with the Administration to approve this important trade agreement without delay.”
