EASTERN KERN COUNTY – The Memorial Day weekend got off to a bad start on the afternoon of May 24. Two Traffic accidents were reported within 10 minutes of each other; one on State Route 58 and the other on U.S. Highway 395 and traffic through Boron was quite a mess for a short period of time.
According to the Barstow area California Highway Patrol, the first accident occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. with a single vehicle accident. A Jeep Cherokee was traveling northbound on highway 395 when for unknown reasons; the vehicle left the roadway and landed 150 feet into the shoulder with the left wheel missing. The driver of the vehicle managed to escape and according to the caller who reported the accident, the driver was in and out of consciousness and requested medical aide. Kern County Fire Station 17 and Hall Ambulance responded to the scene as a precaution. Barstow Automotive responded to the scene to remove the vehicle. The driver of the Cherokee was uninjured in the mishap.
A second accident which was also non-injury occurred at approximately 4:56 p.m. involving a motorcycle and a tour bus in the eastbound lanes of SR 58. According the Barstow area CHP, a motorcyclist escaped serious injuries when a tour bus clipped the rider. The cyclist managed to get to the side of the highway uninjured and called for CHP.
Another non-injury accident occurred on the morning of May 26; according to the Mojave area CHP, a single vehicle was involved in a roll over accident which occurred at approximately 6:27 a.m. in the northbound lanes of State Route 14 just south of State Route 58. The unidentified vehicle rolled landing 50 feet off the roadway on its roof. California City Police sent a unit to the scene for traffic control and investigation while CHP notified Kern County Fire Station 14 and Hall Ambulance. The caller who reported the accident informed CHP that the party involved didn’t wait for fire or medical to arrive on scene; G1 Towing was notified of the wreck and responded to remove the vehicle.
A fourth non-injury accident occurred on May 26 at approximately 7:45 p.m. on eastbound SR 58 2 miles east of Cameron Road. According to Mojave area CHP, a single vehicle went over the embankment with a lone occupant inside. The truck driver who called in the accident pulled off the highway and utilized his hazard lights while two more semis pulled over where the vehicle left the highway. Kern County Fire and Hall Ambulance were notified as well as Antelope Valley Towing.
Another accident occurred at approximately 8:38 p.m. on northbound SR 14 a quarter mile north of Avenue A. According to Mojave area CHP the two vehicle accident was non-injury and both vehicles were on the roadside. Kern County Fire Station 15 out of Rosamond responded to the scene and reported that both parties were uninjured. Antelope Valley Towing out of Lancaster was notified and responded to the scene to remove the Mercedes from the scene.
An accident also occurred on SR 58 westbound approximately 1 mile west of highway 202 in the Tehachapi area. According to Mojave area CHP, the accident occurred on May 27 at approximately 5:35 a.m. when a vehicle collided with the center divider. Traffic westbound was stopped in order to run a break at highway 202, Dennison and Mill Streets while Cal-Trans crews cleared the highway and accessed 50 feet of damage which was done to the concrete divider. Antelope Valley Towing out of Lancaster responded as well as Kern County Fire and Hall Ambulance to tend to the victims. The victims were transported to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield for treatment; both westbound lanes were re-open approximately two hours later.
According to the Barstow area CHP, another non-injury accident involving a black and brown Allegra motor home and a semi hauling onions occurred on the evening of May 27 at approximately 6:30 p.m. on westbound highway 58 eight miles east of Kramer Junction. Both vehicles were on the shoulder when the incident occurred.
